Shit Politicians Said: Fall 2018

World: IMPEACH TRUMP NOW. Congress: ImPeAcH TrUmP NowWwWwW!!!1!!!

In between celebrating Halloween in Richmond, my 27th birthday, a work trip to Florida, and Thanksgiving prep for my party of 11, life lately has been good, but a little bit crazy!

It’s certainly been awhile since my last monthly news roundup, and a lot has been said in the meantime…here’s the biggest highlights, IMHO:

  1. Trump continues to ignore atrocities

"I know everything that went on in the tape without having to hear it," Trump recently told Fox, regarding the tape of Jamal Khashoggi’s murder. "It was very violent, very vicious and terrible."

Since when did ignorance become so unapologetically prevalent, and celebrated, even? In the words of my mentor, “When you know everything, you can’t learn anything.”

  2. Democrats continue to ignore their voter base

I LOVED watching the mid-term election results on PBS, as it was lead by a female moderator and the panelists were almost all female as well! Growing up watching Larry King, Howard Stern, Chris Matthews, Bill Maher… it was refreshing. And the Blue Wave in the house was refreshing as well! Hooray, progress!

However, during an interview on Election night, Pelosi reiterated:

“For those who want impeachment— that's not what our caucus is about.”

To which I answer, why the hell not? That is literally the ONLY thing that your caucus should be about. Please, give me one good reason why it’s not a good idea to overthrow a millionaire authoritarian?

  3. The Elite Continue To Prove Incompetency

Japan’s minister of cybersecurity, Yoshitaka Sakurada, admitted recently, “I don’t use computers myself.” He also doesn’t understand the concept of USB drives. (Which is probably fine, since those will become obsolete soon, anyway…)

I wish I could say I’m surprised, but let’s just say, I’m not. And you shouldn’t be, either. Power and intelligence might be correlated, but repeat after me: correlation does not equal causation.

  4. O’Rourke Continues To Shake S**t Up

“I’m so fucking proud of you guys,” O’Rourke said when thanking his supporters in his concession speech to Ted Cruz. Most news channels did not catch the swear, and hilarity ensued.

Please, O’Rourke, keep disrupting! Keep being outrageous! Keep igniting passion within the DNC! I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times: it’s time to meet fire with fire. It’s time for the left to become as organized and passionate as the right. O’Rourke is one of the closest candidate to help accomplish that thus far.

  5. larry King continues to drop truth bombs

He’s not a politician, but he certainly knows enough about politics. So I thought this would be appropriate to share after the above obligatory Trump stories. In a recent interview, King emphasized:

“There’s the anti-Trump network, the partial anti-Trump network, and the pro-Trump network. But they’re not news networks," he said. "They’re not news networks…a typical CNN show is eight guests – he has an opinion, he has an opinion, he has an opinion…. They stopped doing news… A news organization leads the news, it doesn’t follow."

What other shit have you heard politicians say this week?
