New Year, New Me: 6 Month Check-in
Hi friends! Wow, it's been awhile, hasn't it? I hope you like the blog's new look and feel.
There's still quite a few loose ends I need to tie up, but in the meantime, please take a look around and tell me what you think!
To get back into the swing of writing, I thought I'd give a 6 month update on this post. Perhaps it will get you thinking about your New Years Resolutions as well.
1) Monetize my Passion
Well, I've done a lot to put myself in the position of freelance success. Mainly, redesigning the blog and thus learning a lot of ins-and-outs of digital marketing. However I've yet to truly turn a profit yet, because I just haven't prioritized enough time to that endeavor. Working 2 jobs is hard, y'all!
Moving Foward..in the next 6 months I really want to dedicate more time to building up my personal brand. Right now I spend about 30 min- 1 hr a day on this space. My goal is to consistenly spend 3 hrs/day on this space, with a goal of 20 hrs/week. You have to PUT IN THE WORK, after all.
2) Save Agressively
Since the new year, we've saved $1500 and paid off $7k in debt. We will not be completely zero-debt by tomorrow, like I hoped, but overall I'm happy with the progress. Our biggest setbacks was a lovely wedding we were blessed to be a part of, a tattoo for hubby, and some sickness which led to us being not so great with cooking.
Moving forward...Oh well, we'll keep pushing! ESPECIALLY when it comes to controlling our food budget. Mama C needs to get her ass into the kitchen more.
3) Be Zero Waste
Damn, I am failing at a lot of these! I've certainly improved my efforts by: refusing straws, using a handkerchief instead of tissues, bringing a mug into my 2nd office reducing that waste, eating primarily vegetarian, being better about eating leftovers, and buying reusable produce bags. But let's be real. There's still a LOT more I can do.
Moving forward...My goals are to: switch from pre-packaged salads at lunch to making my own, buying more unpackaged vegetables (instead of pre-cut), buy bulk spices & pantry goods, and walk to the grocery store more frequently rather than making 1 big weekly driving trip.
4) Get Organized
Grade: B+ (Hooray!)
I got a new phone, new work computer, a new email address, and some new notebooks, which DEFINITELY helped. The biggest thing I realized is there's no one "right" way to get organized, and that I actually am pretty organized, just in my own special way. But that's OK, because no one else needs to care except me!
Moving forward... There's still a lot of things that I need to move to my married name lol... hopefully that will happen in the next 20 or so years.
5) Keep Up the Self Care
Well, I've been better at this than ever before. I haven't been to yoga in a few months, but I have been exercising regularly, sleeping like a boss, eating pretty well, and recognizing when my thoughts are actually just cognitive distortions. Probably SHOULDN'T have gone to NYC this weekend while I had strep throat, though....
Moving forward...I need to get my booty back to the yoga studio. I also could definitely stand to cut back on alcohol & caffeine. And also be kinder to myself.
